Bake for Good & Banana Bran Mini Cakes

How do you decide when something is scaling new heights? By the numbers? Well, that might be true for many people or communities. But for Ovenderful Mom Bakers Community  the way to define how we scale new heights is diametrically opposite. The numbers are important – they tell a story.

But is that story compelling enough? Not always. A story can only pull you towards it when it has depth. And that depth comes through opportunities and interactions. The ones which become a channel for us to do something larger than what we ever imagined. Baking takes a new role each time we bake for good. And that is the pull in our story – we are now being actively reached out to for social impact work, month on month. In July we baked for raising awareness and funds, through A Thousand Cranes and The Freedom Project India, for the UN Anti-Trafficking initiative. In August, we baked to share our healthy goodies with 900 children from 30 orphanages across Bangalore, who got together for the Nakshatra inter-orphanage talent fest by Bhumi Foundation.

Very happy to share that for this month, OMBC has been invited to set up a stall at Mount Carmel College to raise awareness about the work we do as we use healthy baking for larger community purpose.

Very few bakers or even their ventures, big or small, have this kind of “heart” and commitment to make a difference to the world around us. And many of those few are a part of OMBC. For that I am thankful.

And on that note, let me share a super simple recipe to close this post with.

Recipe – Banana Bran Mini cakes

  • 1 large ripe banana
  • 1 cup wheat bran / oat bran
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp of liquid jaggery
  • 1 tbsp melted butter ( you can use nut butters or oil too)
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg – optional

Method – Super simple ! Just add all of the above into a mixie. Give it a good mix and pour it into muffin cups or mini cake moulds. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 170 degrees C for 20-25 minutes.
